Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Hello Everyone,

I hope that everyone is taking good care of themselves, their families and those in circumstances less fortunate than our own.

There has never been a time when “we’re in this together” was more true and more resonant.

Needless to say, RYLA is being postponed. We will be watching events closely to determine when we can consider rescheduling, perhaps later in the year, most likely in June 2021.

The participating Clubs are being given the choice of receiving a refund, or allowing us to apply your payment to the next RYLA, which I promise you, will be as soon as possible. Competent, inspired, and skilled leadership is needed in our world now more than ever. And RYLA will be here to train and inspire our future leaders.

Though we certainly understand if Clubs need their RYLA payments refunded, it is our hope that most of you will allow us to hold on to the payments as a show of faith that the RYLA experience remains a reality for District 5130. Be assured that our District Treasurer and I are keeping meticulous records.

As a 20+year member, I have never been more thankful to be a Rotarian. I am a very fortunate person and Rotary gives me the opportunity to balance the scales each and every day.

Please let us know your wishes.

With respect & gratitude,

Eve Yeomans, D5130 RYLA Chair

2020 Sponsorship/student - $650 if received by District 5130 by February 29th, $700 thereafter (includes transportation, food, lodging, and leadership programming for a FIVE-DAY SUMMER CAMP EXPERIENCE

From D5130 Newsletter - February, 2020

I’m very pleased to report that we already have over 50 spots reserved for RYLA 2020! If your Club has not yet signed up, get on the band-wagon, especially if the Club is connected to Interact at your local high schools. You’ve got students who've already demonstrated leadership skills just waiting to be sent to this once-in-a-lifetime camp.

We’re also offering new opportunities to support RYLA this year. Whether your Club is sending campers or not, Rotary and non-Rotary business (and even individuals) can provide sponsorships to make RYLA even more effective at what it does best: growing leaders and nurturing the seeds of service above self.

The Good News: RYLA is on for Summer 2020! – on June 14 – 19 – at Westminster Woods

Hello! What an honor and privilege to be the District 5130 RYLA Chair! First, allow me to thank those who have come before me, those who have spent years dedicating themselves to creating a profoundly valuable experience for the youth of District 5130.

I have been listening to the presentations of former RYLA participants for the last twenty years and I hear the same sentiments year after year…

  • RYLA was the most amazing experience of my life!
  • RYLA should be required training for everyone at our high School.
  • RYLA changed my life!

As with any worthwhile endeavor, for improvement THERE IS ALWAYS ROOM. We intend on building upon the strongest elements of the program, tightening up the bits that need it, and possibly adding some exciting new programs as well.

If your Club has been providing meals (you know who you are, AND I KNOW WHO YOU ARE) we’d like to invite you back! Be ready to get organized; we’ll want to know what y’all are cookin’ up! And we’ll want to know early. I heard that some Clubs are famous for their meals and THAT is something to look forward to.

I am in the process of gathering information about what worked and what needs tweaking. If you’ve been involved and want to reach out, send me an email. I don’t want to reinvent any wheels!!

If you want to talk about recruitment, reach out. Let’s get it done THIS YEAR (as in this Winter) rather than waiting until our worthy candidates have filled their summer schedules. These kiddos are BIZZY!

If your Club has not been involved with the RYLA program and would like further information, we can help you with that too.

When I say “we” I am just one person and RYLA needs the best in each of us involved to remain a reality. You’ll be hearing from me.

And if you’re still waiting for the bad news, I’m afraid you’ll have to watch the evening news ‘cause I got nuthin’ for ya.

The Object of Rotary forms the foundation of RYLA

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

  • FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
  • SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions; the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations; and the dignifying of each Rotarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
  • THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business, and community life;
  • FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
